Common shift patterns
An 8-hour shift worked 5 days per week is one of the most common patterns for this calculator. Enter the shift once, subtract the break minutes, and use 5 shifts per week to estimate a standard full-time schedule.
A 10-hour shift worked 4 days per week is another common setup, especially for compressed schedules. This page also works for an overnight repeating shift such as 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, so you can estimate daily and weekly totals for late or rotating work without rebuilding each day separately.
How to calculate shift work hours with this calculator
- Enter your usual shift start time and end time.
- Add the break minutes that should not count toward paid work hours.
- Enter your hourly rate and the number of shifts you work each week.
- Click Calculate work hours to total the shift.
- Review the daily and weekly work hours along with the pay estimate.
Example of calculating hours worked from a regular shift
Example: A shift from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute break gives 8h 00m of work time for the day.
If you work that shift 5 times per week at $22 per hour, this calculator shows 40h 00m for the week, $176.00 per shift, and $880.00 in estimated weekly pay.
How this shift hours calculation works
The calculator converts your shift start and end times into minutes so daily work hours can be measured accurately. It subtracts break minutes from the shift total, then converts the remaining time into hours and minutes plus decimal hours. After that, it multiplies the daily result by your shifts per week so you can calculate hours worked across a regular schedule.
